On Monday April 16, 2012 members of the Department spent the evening practicing drafting water from a nearby lake. In anticipation of a potential drought this summer, the department may not be able to rely on the towns water system in the event of a fire. The seldom used practice of drafting water as a primary water supply requires pump operators to to hone their skills as it requires a certain finesse and technical expertise to maintain a water supply to the firefighters attacking the fire. The exceptionally dry winter and recent high temperatures have already taxed many departments as the threat of brush fire remains very high this year and there appears to be no relief in site. |
