On a beautiful fall day on September 30, 2013, Main Street in Ramsey was crowded with residents, family and members of Emergency Services from all around the area to welcome home fallen Staff Sgt. Timothy McGill of the Army National Guard Special Forces unit. Tim was killed in Afghanistan while performing his duties. The procession began promptly at noon and passed down Main Street. The only sounds heard were the Bagpipes and drums followed by the 1927 American LaFrance fire truck carrying Tim's body with members of Tim's unit marching next to the truck. Tim's family followed behind along with members of the Emergency Services of Ramsey silently marching behind. The fire truck Tim rode while he was home was in the procession along with a contingent of motorcycles made up of the Patriot Guard and PD units from all around the area.

Tim was a giant of a man, standing 6'6" tall at more than 280 lbs with a heart bigger than life. Tim loved his family, the RFD, friends and his Country. He served proudly, first as a Marine in 2001, then on to the Army National Guard's Special Forces Unit. Tim was killed just a few weeks from his return home. While home on leave, Tim joined the RFD and also worked for the Ramsey DPW. Tim was the kind of guy who could light up a room when he walked in. He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed good conversation with family and friends. He lived every day to it's fullest and enjoyed the military experience.

The members of the Ramsey Fire Department is proud and honored to have had Tim in our midst and will always remember his supreme sacrifice to hold the Nations freedom in place. Thank you, Timmy, for your service and courage to us and this Nation. rest in peace brother. Job well done!!
