On Wednesday evening, January 21, 2015, the Ramsey FD was called to assist the Edgewater FD at a massive fire in a 400 unit townhouse complex, (The Avalon). Tower 442 under the direction of Deputy Chief Jon Krehel (450) and Captain George Fosdick (460) responded first to stand by at Cliffside Park Fire HQ. A while later 442 were requested to the scene to operate at the fire. Once 442 was set up and connected to a water supply, they operated for approximately 7 hours until being relieved around 6:30 A.M. the next day. This incident required the resources from 35 towns as the fire burned through the night and into the second day. The complex spanned nearly a City block and was deemed a total loss. The fire continued to burn as excavators were brought in to move rubble so hot spots could be taken care of. This was the third time the RFD assisted Edgewater and was easily the furthest distance traveled to a Mutual Aid Call. 4 minor injuries were reported and many rescues were made by Edgewater firefighters. The fire was ruled accidental.
