Apartment Fire in Regency Park
By Fire Fighter Mark Madsen
April 16, 2010
Shortly after the procession ended down Main Street for Cpl. Jankiewicz an alarm was received to Ridgewood Central of an apartment fire in Regency Park Condos on Island Ave. Arriving Ramsey Police Department observed heavy smoke emanating from a ground floor corner apartment and began evacuating adjoining apartments in conjunction with transmitting the working fire signal to Ramsey FD. Chief Dougherty arrived, assumed command and sounded the second alarm. The apartment was fully involved and the windows had broken with the fire auto-exposing up to the second floor apartment. Arriving Engine 432 drove into the courtyard after tagging the nearest hydrant and mounted an aggressive attack with Capt. Lou Warnet and FF Bill Cavanaugh. Next arriving Engine 431 secured the secondary water source and stretched a back-up line with FF Bill Laverty and FF James Gatti. The fire was quickly knocked down and arriving Ramsey Ladders 441 and 442 along with Mahwah Ladder 2 went to work above the fire to make sure all was extinguished. Mutual Aid was received from Mahwah, Allendale, Waldwick and Wyckoff. Standby was provided by HoHokus, Oakland and Upper Saddle River. Thanks to all who came and helped, good to know you are there when we need you!
