The body construction has been completed and the vehicle will be prepared for paint and the installation of lights and other specific equipment. When the vehicle is placed in service in early 2012, it will function as a response vehicle for FAST responses as well as a support unit for a variety of special calls, the FD responds to. He later gave the Supreme Sacrifice and for the last several years the run has grown to nearly 40,000 runners, walkers and riders who make the same trip through the tunnel to raise money for the families of the 343 fallen firefighters. Runners as well as firefighters from all over the world attend this event year after year. James also brought a long time friend, Mark Heftler to run with him. James' parents, Captain Lou Warnet and Peggy, accompanied by Ramsey FF Nick Krazit cheered them on. Good Job James, We are all proud!! Strong winds began blowing trees and power lines down into the night, which brought the now exhausted emergency services back on their toes. During the afternoon on Sunday, a call to the Ramsey PD, who in turn dispatched the FD, Rescue, and EMS units to 293 South Central ave. for a large tree into a house with people trapped. Upon arrival, a very large tree smashed into a small home in the rear of the property completely engulfing the second floor. 4 people were trapped and unable to get out. Ladders from engine 432 and Tower 441 were placed at windows and the residents were safely removed. The utilities were secured and the second floor of the home was completely destroyed. One of the residents suffered an injury to her foot and was treated by EMS. no other injuries were reported. Almost 10 inches of rain fell here in Ramsey. and tropical storm force winds blew down some very large trees. Most residents if not all have power restored as of today (Friday). Ramsey Public Works continues in assisting in storm clean-up townwide. Fri, 02 Sep 2011 13:31:24 GMT http://www.ramseyfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=143 Irene Problematic, But not a Disaster http://www.ramseyfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=142 Tropical Storm Irene wreaked havoc within Ramsey but no problem was insurmountable for Ramsey's First Responders. While some areas are still without power, overall planning and preparation assured appropriate response to storm related incidents. From flooded roads and basements to trees crashed into houses with people trapped, Ramsey's emergency responders addressed every need with urgency, compassion and expertise. Storm planning at the guidance of Chief Dougherty assured that an adoption of a townwide unified command would start at the onslaught of the storm on Saturday night and continue well into Sunday afternoon. Dozens of incidents were handled with appropriate response of the Ramsey FD, Ramsey Police, Ramsey Rescue, Ramsey Ems and Ramsey Public Works . While many residents experienced loss from water damage and wind damage, follow up services continue to help residents resume normal activities as soon as possible. Wed, 31 Aug 2011 00:28:10 GMT http://www.ramseyfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=142 Irene On The Way http://www.ramseyfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=141 As of this writing it seems that Hurricane Irene will affect our town beginning late Saturday night/Sunday morning and quite possibly with hurricane force (>74mph) winds. Residents and emergency responders should be preparing for widespread power loss possibly for a period greater than 24 hours. Residents should move valuables to higher levels in your home if you have a basement sump pump. If you are fortunate enough to have a emergency generator test it and prepare it for service now, not when it is needed on Sunday. Obtain an adequate fuel supply for these devices now. TREAT ALL DOWNED WIRES AS LIVE WIRES, REPORT BUT DO NOT TOUCH DOWNED WIRES. If trees do take down poles and wires, cable tv and phone service will also be affected. Loss of the public water supply is not likely, nor is the loss of the public natural gas supply. Other helpful tips are fill prescriptions now , enough to last a week or so in the event of a widespread computer of power outage. Take out enough cash also to last a few days in the event of the same outages. Fuel up personal vehicles prior to the storm in the event of loss of power to gas stations. Upon arrival of the first police units it was a confirmed truck fire. The first arriving Fire officer was Captain Lou Warnet ( 460 ) also reported a "working" fire on a tractor only, no trailer, with extension to the building. Shortly after Chief Jim Dougherty (430) arrived on scene and established command. Shortly thereafter Deputy Chief Randy Sterbinsky (450) arrived and he and Lou Warnet worked at operations. The first arriving engine was 432, they came directly in to attack the fire with two hand lines placed into service. The second arriving unit was 431 they estabished a water supply to 432. Arriving on scene , Assistant Water Superintendant Mark Madsen ( W1 ) arrived to insure where the hydrant was located in the snow. The fire was knocked down by the crews . Ladder 442 was called into the scene along with 440 Assistant Chief Carl Held to go up and check the roof for extension. It was determined that the trucks diesel fuel was leaking onto the ground. With that, the Mahwah Haz-Mat was called to the scene along with them the Bergen County Haz-Mat and the Ramsey Rescue squad for lighting. Because of the nature of the call the police department called in the on call detective who then called in the Bergen County Prosecuters Office Arson squad. No injuries were reported during this call. The Ramsey Fire Department cleared the scene at 4:45 am and the incident was still under investigation at that time. Tue, 08 Feb 2011 17:22:17 GMT http://www.ramseyfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=120 Help UsHelp You http://www.ramseyfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=117 As you are well aware we have had a major snow storm in the tri-state area. Fortunately since the storm we have had no major incidents in the area. During a fire, the ability to get a continuous water supply is a precious commodity. We are appealing to the citizenry of Ramsey for your help. During the storm all of our fire hydrants have been snow covered. When a fire hydrant is needed and covered, the Fire Department has to dig it out which takes manpower and time to achieve, time which could be better spent getting into the house with attack lines. WE NEED YOUR HELP!! There are roughly 900 hydrants in Ramsey, the task is very daunting. If you have a fire hydrant on your property or in your neighborhood, please clear it off, at least 3' feet around. Even if you're reading this and you do not live in Ramsey, if your hydrant is covered please clear it out . Please help us help you, after all the life you save may be your own. Wed, 29 Dec 2010 07:24:35 GMT http://www.ramseyfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=117 Chimney Fire Spreads to Attic http://www.ramseyfd.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=115 On Sunday, November 28, 2010, at 7:45 P.M. Ramsey FD was dispatched for a reported fire in the attic called in by the resident on Valley View Drive. Ramsey PD arrived and reported a working fire. Ramsey Chief Jim Dougherty and Captain Gregg Hewit arrived and confirmed a working fire spreading from the base of the chimney, up the walls into the attic. Chief Dougherty requested the second alarm assignment bringing mutual aid from Wyckoff, Mahwah, and Allendale with support from Ramsey EMS and Rescue. The NORCON communications center was also activated. Engine 432 was the first unit on scene and was ordered to connect to the hydrant in front and stretch 2 lines into the front door. The first line went to the main floor and the second went to the attic. A third line was brought into the basement. The crew on the main floor was met with heavy smoke and fire showing in the walls around the chimney. An aggressive attack with the line along with pulling the walls and ceiling quickly knocked the fire down. The attic crew knocked the heavy fire down from a small scuttle in the hallway, then advanced into the attic to handle spot fires and overhaul. Tower 441 was positioned in front and raised the tower to the roof for ventilation. Ground ladders were also used to allow crews to overhaul the roof area which sustained heavy fire damage. Engine 434 connected to a hydrant and supplied the tower if needed while the crew assisted the first in units. Thankfully all the residents got out safely and there were no injuries reported at the scene. The home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage in the area where the fire began. Thanks to the first in units for an aggressive interior attack, the fire did not spread any further. Great Job!! Thanks again for the mutual aid units that responded and for the local support from PD, Rescue and EMS. This support helps us do what we do.
