The Ramsey FD Junior Fire Brigade took part in the Mutual Aid Field Day held in Ridgewood on May 18th. They competed with 9 Departments in 3 different events, which included a firefighters challenge event which required firefighters to perform different tasks and then tagging the next member as if in a relay. Other events included stretching a hoseline up the tower and filling a container at the bottom.
The Juniors were challenged to do the competition with very little time to prepare and performed in a manner that caught the attention of the judges since they are still in training in the firefighter 1 class and have very little experience in the fire service and because they average in age of 16, 17, and 18 year olds. Even though they were not the fastest team, they worked well together, showing team work, and the willingness to do the best they can and performed in a professional manner.
The judges presented them with the "Dana Hannon" memorial trophy for their efforts. Dana was a member of the Wyckoff FD and later became a member of the FDNY and was killed on 9/11.
Congratulations to the members of the Junior Fire Brigade on the award. The RFD is very proud to have them as part of the family.
Good job guys!!!
