The Ramsey FD was dispatched a little before 5 AM on Christmas Day to assist the Mahwah FD at a structure fire. First due units from Mahwah were met by a well involved fire at the ArZee building supply company at the corner of Franklin Turnpike and Fox Lane. Immediate requests went out to neighboring towns to assist. The fire grew to 5 alarms bringing units from Bergen and Passaic counties, including several from Rockland County NY. 3 aerial ladders and 4 tower ladders operated for several hours in 20 degree weather before bringing the fire under control after daybreak. RFD Tower Ladder 441 was sent to Fox lane to operate on the "D" side of the building, while RFD Engine 432 operated from a hydrant as part of a relay set up to supply an aerial ladder from Suffern NY. A full roof collapse occurred during the height of the fire and several stacks of building material on racks continued to burn until heavy equipment was brought in to overhaul the burning material. All mutual aid units and Mahwah units were replaced by additional Mutual Aid companies to allow for fresh teams to continue overhaul and final extinguishment. A total of 20 towns from the surrounding area were called to assist. Thankfully no injuries were reported and the incident is currently under investigation.
