By Ex-Chief Louis Warnet Jr.
June 17, 2022

Last night, the Knights of Columbus held the annual Shield Awards ceremony and Captain Christopher Warnet is the 2022 recipient from the Fire Department. Chris also has been chosen as the Firefighter of the Year from the FD and was also chosen as the Volunteer of the Year presented by the Mayor and Council. My son Chris is a fourth generation Firefighter beginning with his Grandfather, Lou Warnet from the Wyckoff Fire Department, Myself, and his older brother James, a member of the Mahwah Fire Department Co. 1. Christopher is a 16 year member starting out as a Junior at age 16. He has worked his way up the ranks and is serving his third year as Captain. Chris is the department training officer and works tirelessly along with other members arranging drills, fire school, and has had a hand in the upgrading of radio equipment, pagers and the onboard computers on all of the apparatus. During the Pandemic, he worked to ensure all of the annually required drills were set up online for all members to receive the credit. Chris works hard and has a deep passion for the fire service and he very much deserves this award. He has accomplished alot thus far and will continue to move forward in his Fire Service Career.

His brother James also received the Firefighter of the year award from the Mahwah Fire Department for 2022 and joins Chris during this highlight of their career. James is serving as a Lieutenant and is involved in training and also is a member/trainer of the dive team. James started in Ramsey with Chris and moved on to Mahwah.

As their dad, I am especially proud of both of them and so happy their work has been noticed and recognized. Congratulations to both of you.... So well deserved.....
