This morning, Ramsey Firefighters were alerted to a report of a structure fire at 33 Lakeview Terrace around 6:40 AM. Chief Doug Harvey (430) quickly arrived on scene, established Command and confirmed a working fire with flames and smoke showing from the roof area in the single floor dwelling. To make matters worse, as units were setting up, the electrical power line burned off the side of the home and dropped to the ground. Nobody was injured and the wire was quickly secured. The residents were evacuated on arrival and no injuries were reported. The "working fire assignment" was transmitted bringing a FAST from Mahwah Co. 2, Tower Ladder from Wyckoff Co.1 , Allendale with an engine along with Ramsey Rescue and EMS to the scene. Seeing that manpower was stretched because of the time of day, command requested the full second alarm assignment bringing an additional engine from Mahwah Co. 1 to the scene and additional units for coverage.
First due engine (432) hit the hydrant and stretched a line into the front door as Tower (441) set up and went to the roof for ventilation. Members from Mahwah arrived and stretched a second line for possible extension. Engine (433) laid a supply line down to supply the Tower Ladder and stretched to the next hydrant. With the first line in service and the roof opened, the fire was held in the area of origin. Substantial overhaul was needed to check for extension and any hotspots. The fire was declared under control within an hour.
No injuries were reported, however the home was declared unsafe and not livable. The fire is under investigation as to the cause.
Thank you to all Ramsey personnel who responded as well as the mutual aid units for assistance. Strong work....
