| On Friday night May 15 all local emergency services were honored by the Ramsey Knights of Columbus Chapter 3962 ,Patrick Pindar Council by the installment of their Responders of the Year presentation. On hand were representatives of Federal, State, County and Local government. The Chief of the Ramsey Fire Department Michael Scalione was pleased to present two firefighters for awards for these most prestigious awards. Firefighters Doug Harvey and Gary Paul were honored for two separate life-saving acts in 2008. They joined New Jersey State DARE Officer of the year Ramsey Patrolman Tim Shoemaker, Ramsey Ambulance EMT Colleen Gubala, Ramsey Rescue Squadwoman Kelly Blair and OEM Planner George Halprin as the Class of 2009.
Poignant words were delivered by all of the speakers and recipients, all with the message of continuing on in the good work of emergency services. Both recipients from Ramsey FD were honored because of the training they had received early in their career which finally came into play to save a life. Conversely several members were not able to attend the ceremony as they were involved in intense high heat flashover training at the Bergen County Fire Academy. Perhaps one day they will receive honors for acts of valor because of the training they received tonight. In summary, Ramsey FD congratulates all of the most deserving recipients and looks forward to next years honorees for their accomplishments. |
