Monday nights drill was held at the Bergen County Life Safety Complex in Mahwah where members were trained in mask confidence. Members were trained to navigate an obstacle course designed to challenge firefighters in getting through a variety of obstacles, such as open beams, getting through tight spaces, tunnels, tangled wires, etc. while using breathing apparatus with blacked out masks. Using their senses and available tools, a crew of three would crawl through the course in an effort to come out the other side. Along with the physical part, members practiced proper communication with each other as to what they were approaching and advising them as to how to get through. Afterward, a critique of the night was held with the instructors, who asked each member how they felt the course was help full to them. This allowed the others to hear each others own critique about the course. alot was learned that night as it was a mixture of more experienced members and younger members, including one of our newest members, who never experienced this. More time will be spent practicing and sharpening their skills in the future. Thank you to Instructors Dougherty and Franco for their time. |
