Awards Presentation for Mark Madsen & Dave Brown

At the August 12, 2009 Council Meeting at Ramsey Boro Hall, 2 awards were presented to Ramsey Firefighter/EMT Mark Madsen and Ramsey Rescue squadman/EMT Dave Brown. In addition to these organizations both are members of the Ramsey Ambulance Corps.The awards were given in regards to the quick action by both men at the scene of a Rockland Electric worker that received a serious electric shock while working on a home at 132 Maple Street on July 27, 2009. Dave was at home at the time and called for help immediately after the incident happened which brought the Ramsey PD, EMS, Medics, The Fire Department and the Rescue Squad to the scene. Mark was working at the Boro Garage at the time and drove over to the scene. Madsen used his work truck to back up to the still elevated bucket where the victim was inside seriously injured. Dave and Mark both lifted the victim out of the bucket and began immediate first aid care while units arrived. The victim was then treated by the medics and Ramsey EMS workers , then transported to the high school field where a medevac helicopter was waiting. He was flown to the St. Barnabas Burn Center, where he is still recovering from his injuries.

It was reported that the fast action by both men played a valuable role in saving the life of this man. He is recovering from serious burns. Representatives of Rockland Electric as well as the victims wife and baby were on hand to see the presentation as well as other family members. Each one had a few words to say to the men during the presentation.
